Healthcare Standards Compliance Services

With the addition of ICD 10, 5010 and HITECH Privacy and Security standards, an unprecedented disruption awaits Healthcare Organizations that are not prepared. CIBER offers a new suite of services that will help organizations comply with the new ANSI 5010, ICD-10, and HIPAA Privacy and Security standards.

CIBER has a 35-year history of helping organizations upgrade or replace their application systems.  Combined with our extensive work with healthcare organizations, we are prepared to help our clients address the triple challenges of ICD 10, ANSI 5010, and the new HIPAA Privacy and Security standards.

CIBER will lead with Readiness Assessment and Impact Assessment capabilities.  Additional services will help organizations renovate or replace existing systems to comply with the new standards.  This will include providing assistance in addressing personnel, process, and governance issues related to the major transitions to the new healthcare standards.

CIBER Healthcare Standards Compliance Services

CIBER’s Healthcare Standards Compliance Services are based on the CIBER Compliance Methodology which brings a holistic approach and strategic focus on People, Partners, Products and Technology. Services are orchestrated and delivered to fully prepare your organization and include necessary steps for success. CIBER begins with an Assessment to create a Strategic Plan which explores:

  • Remediation - Modifying existing systems
  • Replacement - Replacing existing systems
  • Neutralization -  Building an interpretation bridge

Readiness Assessment - determines the level of awareness and preparation for addressing the new healthcare standards associated with ICD 10 coding, ANSI 5010 EDI transactions, and the new HIPAA Security and Privacy regulations associated with the America Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. This service includes providing essential education and training to key personnel plus an assessment of the organization’s ability to address the key planning for standards compliance.

Business Impact Assessment - helps organizations conduct an inventory of key systems, processes, and personnel that will likely be impacted by the new standards, and evaluate solution options.

Additional services – CIBER offers related services including assistance with renovation or replacement of application systems, re-engineering processes, systems testing, change management and help desk support.

Now is the Time

The 5010 ANSI standards will go into effect by January 2012.The new ICD 10 coding standards will be mandatory by Oct. 2013.  Both dates are firm with no extensions planned.    The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid guidelines recommend that organizations begin their ICD 10 and 5010 assessments in 2009.

Be Aware of HIPAA Privacy and Security Penalties

New HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations have been enacted that include significant penalties for security breaches.  CIBER’s extensive experience in HIPAA Compliance, Security and Privacy consulting can help you develop appropriate strategies to protect against damaging security breaches.

New Standards Bring Broad System Impact

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) recently published a list containing many of the systems that will be affected by the ICD 10 and 5010 standards changes. The list includes many systems that are used at physician practices, hospitals, payers and clearinghouses including accounting, data warehouse, clinical, and payer claims adjudication systems.

Plan and Prepare for the People and Process Related Issues

Almost every employee and key business partner that utilizes clinical or transactional healthcare information will be impacted by the new changes.   CIBER can provide effective change management programs, employee training, and Help Desk support services to address this challenge.

Because ICD 9 and ICD 10 must be supported concurrently for a period of time, this will require major business process changes and new business rules.   In addition, process changes will be needed to protect against the new HIPAA Security and Privacy regulations and ensure compliance with the new 5010 ANSI EDI transactions.   CIBER can provide both software tools and expertise to help organizations redesign and implement business process changes.

Don’t have a budget yet? Sometimes your biggest barrier to being fully prepared for compliance with the new standards is your own executive team.  CIBER can help provide you with the information you need to help your executive team better understand the associated risks and the need to fully support compliance with the new standards and regulations.
