SAINT PAUL, Minn. – August 6, 2009 – CIBER, Inc., (NYSE: CBR) a global provider of information technology (IT) services, has been awarded the prime contract with the City of Saint Paul, Minnesota that promises to improve overall operations and is expected to save the city millions of dollars. The City’s current system, which is decades old, will be replaced by an Enterprise Resource Planning system from Lawson Software and implemented by CIBER. This project, which commenced in July 2009, is scheduled to last 27 months.
The City of Saint Paul’s new $14.4 million initiative, COMET (City Operations Modernization and Enterprise Transformation Program), will replace old finance and accounting systems and will provide the City substantial improvements in business operations. CIBER’s contract with Saint Paul is a part of this COMET initiative, and includes the Lawson software implementation, project management, business process design, change management/user adoption, functional/technical consulting, and some customized training approaches.
CIBER’s implementation project will streamline core business processes and will allow the City to accurately track spending and personnel. Currently the City uses 35 different computing programs. By using a consolidated system, the City of Saint Paul will have tools to help improve city services by allowing staff to be more strategically deployed which ensures the citizens receive better overall service.
“This will be a top-to-bottom reform of the way the city does business," Mayor Chris Coleman said. "We have a 1985 platform for our computer system that runs a $500 million budget and 2,700 employees. This is an investment in our future and a system that will help the city run like a successful business with an eye on what’s best for our residents.”
Andrea Casselton, CIO of the City of Saint Paul, said, “We are thrilled to begin this project. The Lawson system will help greatly improve our business processes and generate a substantial return on investment. CIBER has clearly demonstrated their ERP public sector expertise, and we’re confident in their ability to execute.”
“We are very excited to work with the City of Saint Paul on this significant initiative. CIBER’s extensive experience in the state and local government sector will provide the City with a more reliable and efficient way to conduct business. Lawson’s integrated ERP system, deployed through the COMET project, will help Saint Paul save money and free up their staff to focus on the most valuable services to the constituents of the City,” said Paul Robson, Vice President of CIBER’s Lawson Practice.
