DENVER, Colo. – Feb. 6, 2006 – CIBER Enterprise Solutions, a division of Colorado-based CIBER, Inc. (NYSE: CBR), today announced it has led a team that won a three-year, $13 million software and services contract with the Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colo. CIBER will implement an Oracle enterprise resource planning (ERP) administrative information system to support the organization in managing its financial and human resources activities, and—as prime contractor—will oversee the installation of MAXIMUS Inc.’s FASuite™ product, which manages fleet maintenance activities and operations. CIBER will serve as prime contractor on the project. Additionally, Colorado-based Solbourne will train RTD staff on the new system and will lead the organization in managing business process changes brought about by the new system.
Project kick-off is scheduled for Feb. 6.
CIBER will implement Oracle’s eBusiness, Financials, and Human Resources solutions, as well as provide overall project management and technical consulting expertise. CIBER will also integrate MAXIMUS’s FASuite? product—which provides Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) tools to manage fleet and rail vehicles, facilities, rail track, rail infrastructure, and signal assets—with Oracle’s e-Business suite.
RTD operates a public transportation system serving Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, and Jefferson Counties, and parts of Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas, and Weld Counties. RTD offers fixed route bus service, light rail service, call-and-ride demand response service, and Access-a-Ride service for the disabled. It is also partnering with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) on the transportation expansion (T-REX) project to build light rail service for the southeastern section of the Denver metropolitan area. Given the scope of its operations, the organization needed an ERP system to efficiently manage operations.
When complete, the project will enable RTD to streamline its business practices by utilizing wireless PDA/handheld devices, shop floor touch-screens for technicians, and bar code labels and scanners for inventory. The project will also provide RTD an efficient, automated way to monitor vehicle and facilities maintenance; integrate multiple data sources into a digital dashboard format to monitor system, employee, attendance, disciplinary, and budget performance; eliminate labor-, paper-, and time-intensive manual processes; eliminate multiple revenue and billing systems; provide online ability to generate and approve requisitions; centralize vendor tracking; provide detailed cost accounting; track parts and labor costs; forecast inventory and maintenance requirements; ensure adherence to DOT, EPA, and FTA regulations; and monitor payment history, change orders, and expiration dates.
Phil Washington, RTD’s Assistant General Manager, said, “A crucial goal of RTD is to maximize our effectiveness. To provide the best service to our taxpayers at a competitive price, we must be efficient. CIBER’s experienced team, track record of successes, world-class software solutions, and proven implementation approach will help us achieve our objectives, reduce costs, and keep jobs in Colorado, all while keeping up with the Denver area’s population growth.”
“We’re pleased to assist RTD with its IT initiatives,” said Russ Wheeler, President of CIBER Enterprise Solutions. “An ERP system like the one we will be integrating is in use at six of the top ten transit authorities in the U.S. RTD’s objectives are important to the Denver area and to the state. Working with our partners, we can implement an IT solution that makes RTD’s operations run more smoothly and efficiently, which will benefit not only RTD, but the citizens of the eight-county RTD District.”
RTD was created in 1969. It currently employs more than 2,400 people and operates more than 1,000 buses, 49 light rail vehicles, 24 light rail stations, and 7 operating facilities.
