“We require a solution that will provide a solid foundation for our strategic Human Resources goals and enhance our ability to provide outstanding client service by making our systems and processes more efficient. We want to leverage our technology upgrade to not only comply with the software requirements, but also to improve business processes and integrate disparate systems. We chose CIBER because they clearly demonstrated expertise in the complex components of this project.”
Shayne Spalten — Chief Human Resources Officer, Denver Public Schools
“We were aware of the hurdles school districts face with the implementation of ERP software. The implementation of mission-critical and highly visible applications, such as HCM and specifically payroll, have been well documented. We chose SAP and CIBER because they offered us the best options from a combined software and integration perspective, given CIBER’s methodology for implementing SAP ERP HCM within a K-12 district. Under CIBER’s leadership we avoided the challenges other districts have encountered during implementation. We’re very pleased.”
Charles Sipos — Executive Director of Information Technology, Fulton County Schools
“With the successful implementation of applications for finance, logistics, payroll and HCM, we now have a solid foundation for our business processes, from which we can continue to recognize additional value from the SAP Business Suite. ”
Mike Russell — Assistant Superintendent, Fulton County Schools
“Lee County School District is trying to maintain customer responsiveness with our current computer system - a 30-year-old legacy system. In today's demanding environment, our system is challenged trying to help us meet our customers' expectations. Our vision for the district is to have world class schools; we are calling this the Navigator Project. So this new ERP system supports our District vision - it will provide world class business tools for world class schools.”
Lee Legutko — Chief Business Officer, Lee County Public Schools

CIBER created for us an open, scalable, service-oriented architecture portal that can be easily updated and integrated with our other IT systems, so it will grow as our needs change.”
Nick Gledich — Chief Operating Officer, Orange County Public Schools

Addressing challenges in today’s educational environment requires both greater strategic allocation of resources and more rigorous measurement of effectiveness. Administrators of K-12 entities are expected to grasp the big picture view of their school system in order to drive improvements and efficiencies, but are often constrained by a silo-based organization and an aging infrastructure.
Making the Right Decisions
Do you have the reliable data you need to make decisions that impact the student-teacher relationship and day-to-day business processes? Can you get to that data easily? How do you make sense of it all? Do you know where it is?

Planning for Success - K-12 Roadmaps
Do you have a clear understanding of how to drive your organizational, business and technical initiatives to a point of strategic convergence? How do individual initiatives support and integrate into the big picture and how do they intersect with one another?
Aligning Organizations for Optimization
Are your instructional and administrative departments strategically aligned and do they support an overall sound and streamlined business process? How do you know?
Preparing for Emergencies
In the event of a crisis, can you quickly grasp its criticality, determine a course of action, execute a response, contain the crisis and communicate both internally and externally?
Why go it alone? CIBER has helped school systems, local education agencies and state departments of education with the operations insight and technology expertise to address these issues, leverage existing and new information streams and bring their organizations fully into the 21st century.
CIBER’s K-12 Practice places at your disposal the capability, experience, and expertise of a $1.2 billion full service IT consultancy, aligned to the challenges faced by K-12 organizations such as yours.
Student Centered Enterprise: A Roadmap to “Student360”
Society and technology have changed immensely, but our methods for educating children have not kept pace. CIBER can help you design, build and integrate technology initiatives that provide greater insight into how students are learning, how teachers are teaching and how increased performance can be achieved. Odds are good that your organization has nearly all of the data it needs to build reliable accountability models, respond to public queries and demonstrate regulatory compliance. Getting to that raw data so it can be analyzed for strategic decision-making, however, is another issue entirely.
Student360 is CIBER’s conceptual model of an IT infrastructure that enables a 360° view of a student and all of the data touch points (i.e. Student Information System, Instructional applications, Assessment information, Curriculum management tools) that may impact that student throughout his or her daily educational journey. Deploying a Student360 model integrates instructional and business data in a manner that provides actionable information for instructors and administrators. CIBER works with clients to define their data needs, align those needs to an enterprise information management strategy, design the Student360 model for their environment and then develop a roadmap that lays out how to deploy such a model within their organization.
Information Access
In an effort to make data available to constituents, many organizations deploy multiple portals and internet sites that do not align with a larger information management plan. The presentation of that information needs to be comprehensive, accurate and timely. CIBER can develop and execute a web portal strategy that pulls together branding and communication, internet, intranet, website, and portal initiatives into a single unified whole. Our ability to design and build enterprise portals assists with the distribution of information in a cost-effective manner to students, staff, faculty, parents and other constituents. Building from best practice data governance models, our portals enable non-technical staff to create, update and delete content easily.
Providing a Safe Environment for Students: CIBER Emergency Management Services
Unfortunately, today’s students often can’t assume that their educational environment is safe. Natural and man-made disasters must be expected and planned for. Whether it’s massive flooding, hurricane-force winds, or a public health emergency, students must be kept safe, vital systems must remain operational, and sensitive data must be protected. CIBER can help you expect the unexpected by…
- Determining requirements, capability gaps, and points of failure
- Developing prevention, mitigation, and crisis response plans and procedures
- Assessing Situational Awareness and Decision Support Abilities
- Leading emergency response drills
- Providing information security and backup services
- Integrating emergency notification, access control, and Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) solutions
Providing safety and security for youths from kindergarten through high school is a daunting prospect. On top of that is the requirement to protect vital data and systems in the event of a disaster. The ideal solution is an enterprise approach, integrating the full range of applicable emergency management functions and business continuity/disaster recovery procedures, while leveraging existing capabilities. Such solutions can be tailored to prepare schools fully for the unique risks they face, positioning them to quickly understand the nature of a crisis as it develops, determine the best courses of action, and integrate seamlessly into their neighboring responder agencies, all the while maintaining control and containing the crisis.
Back Office Operations: K-12 ERP
As a Tier one ERP systems integrator, CIBER is uniquely qualified to bring ERP expertise and project accelerators to K-12 organizations. CIBER’s K-12 ERP project accelerators are time saving, risk mitigating implementation templates that encapsulate K-12 business operations intellectual capital. These accelerators were built from an ERP installation within a K-12 school district.
The components of our accelerators include deliverables and process documentation for an end-to-end K-12 ERP implementation that can be leveraged with any software package. The components contained within our project accelerators include the following:
- Business design documents containing standard K-12 business process flows
- Integration test scripts
- Training documentation
- Security assignments and role definitions
- Change management documents outlining how to help the district embrace and adopt the ERP system
- Project change control processes
- Program and project management office best practices
- Competency center documentation for ongoing maintenance and support
CIBER’s K-12, ERP project accelerators are powerful tools. They afford Districts the luxury of starting their ERP initiative from a solid base, built on a real K-12 specific implementation. They are designed to help clients realize benefits of the ERP system faster, and to increase project success by having many of the risks accounted for and either eliminated or mitigated.
Bringing it all together: Enterprise Program Strategy and Management
Educational organizations often operate in a silo fashion, making it difficult to manage the convergence of critical initiatives. These initiatives can’t be managed in a silo, but must be planned for and executed with an understanding of how each fits into an overall, big picture strategy and how they integrate with one another. CIBER works with our clients to devise a holistic strategy that empowers technology to fulfill its role as an enabler of instruction and administration. As an integrator of enterprise solutions, CIBER has the ability to grasp the complex weave between organizational, governance, and technical components. Deploying sound enterprise program management practices, CIBER applies that understanding to our clients’ environment to create a strategy and drive a tactical plan for execution.
CIBER’s program management methodology ensures the strategic convergence of individual initiatives across the enterprise.
