The client is recognized as a leader in providing drilling and blasting services to the construction and quarry markets, along with a variety of specialty services throughout the northeastern United States, including rock bolting, hoe ramming, engineering, preblast surveys and packaged and bulk explosive distribution. During the last 40 plus years, they have performed over one million controlled blasts for highways, site development, quarries, housing lots, utilities, and marine work.
Paper collection of production information and manual processing of data meant lag times in acquiring job cost data and redundancy in manual data entry into separate systems, thus creating extra work and limiting efficiencies. Recognizing a need to automate their field data collection, the client chose Ciber to convert its legacy, paper-based payroll and job costing systems into an electronic, field data capture system for remote, automated collection of daily project and production data associated with each job and feed that data directly into its ERP Systems.
Ciber’s complete and cost-effective IT solution leveraged existing IT resources, incorporated commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software, with minimum customizations for data entry on mobile devices, and integrated a low-cost, selfmanageable database system.
As a result of the implementation of Ciber’s solution, errors from manual data entry were drastically reduced and the Regional Administrators, who are the gatekeepers of field data for payroll and job costing on a daily and weekly basis, significantly increased productivity in the day-to-day operations of data collection. Because no external training was needed, costs were significantly contained.
