Standardized Methodology for Application Development

Quality development begins with an understanding of your wants and needs. CIBER knows no two projects are the same – and no one plan works for all projects. With this in mind, CIBER developed the CIBER Application Process™ (CAP) to serve as our software development life cycle (SDLC) for application development. CAP is designed with the rigor to consistently deliver, the flexibility to support and the scalability to maximize your investment.

Built on commercial best practices and continually refined through lessons learned, CAP is structured to be either a complete, standalone software development lifecycle or can serve as a framework to support your preferred SDLC, existing tools or licensed software for modeling, testing and configuration management. CAP fits within the larger CIBERsmart™ approach, which defines activities to be performed from initial customer contact through final delivery, and is supported by CIBER’s Center for Quality Management.

CAP is a set of repeatable practices and processes that drive:

Solution Analysis – Identifies and defines a need for the new system
Requirements Analysis – Analyzes the information needs of the end users
Architecture – Creates a blueprint for design with specifications for the hardware, software, people and data resources
Coding and Debugging – Creates the programs of the final system
System Testing – Evaluates the system’s delivered functionality

Integrated with CAP is CIBER’s project management methodology, which ensures CIBER projects are delivered on time and within budget, meeting requirements and quality expectations. CIBER knows that successful software development must be planned and executed using sound project management disciplines.

CIBER’s project management methodology focuses on three essential elements: progress management, communications and risk mitigation. This methodology, designed specifically for IT projects and based on industry best practices from the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), embraces change control and issue control management of your projects.

A Portfolio View

Our application portfolio approach and business process alignment for development projects provides our clients the opportunity to evaluate how an initiative satisfies an enterprise strategy, defines quality and performance from the end user’s perspective and assists with the establishment of metrics for service level support. Our development and management methodologies support this business alignment through modeling, requirements definition, architectural analysis and planning.

CAP supports both incremental and iterative approaches and is compatible with Rapid Application Development (RAD). This enables CIBER to support agile and extreme programming principles with adherence to the client’s preferred methodology or a blending of approaches. Use of CAP also ensures that throughout the engagement, and at each major phase, the business requirements are reflected, addressed and met in all design, build and test deliverables.
