Agile Development Brings Benefits in Tough Financial Times
Agile software development has become a mainstream practice that
can reduce cost and accelerate revenue compared to traditional phased
development methods. When the economy is in turmoil and budgets
are shrinking, Agile can help an organization get more for every dollar of
development spending. Experienced Agile teams are more productive than
traditional development teams, resulting in more efficient use of people,
the most expensive element of software development. An Agile Enterprise
can gain significant competitive advantage by getting products to market
sooner. All of these advantages can be explained in terms of Agile principles
and practices. Experienced Agile Coaches can help ensure success when
implementing Agile.

This web-based application system has streamlined our business processes and provided us with custom reports. This system has met our needs and was created to satisfy our requirements. We couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.”
Jim Shields — Chief Information Officer, The Investment Fund for Foundations
“TeleTracking Technologies is thrilled with the success of the Capacity Management Suite powered by TeleTracking XT™. Engaging with CIBER on this project resulted in the successful completion of a much anticipated version and upgrade of our suite of applications. CIBER’s breadth of knowledge and experience was an indispensible complement to our capabilities.”
Don DeCorte — Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, TeleTracking Technologies
“CIBER provides RCM with a flexible and scalable solution for resourcing and executing projects in a timely and cost effective manner using an onsite/offshore development model. Project successes have been achieved through the high quality expertise that CIBER has provided at the strategic, project management, technology and business analyst levels, and CIBER’s capability to quickly adjust team strength and skill sets according to RCM project requirements.”
Graeme Langlands — Head of Enterprise Business Systems, RCM Capital Management
“We needed to replace our aging legacy systems, which worked well for us for many years, but which could not accommodate our changing needs. We needed a system to integrate data and simplify our business processes, and to provide us with support in terms of software upgrades.”
Lu McDonald — Vice President, Finance, Gramercy Alumina LLC
“CIBER's high-quality design capabilities, disciplined delivery methodologies and in-depth hospitality e-commerce experience really impressed us. CIBER demonstrated the highest levels of expertise with hospitality search engine marketing and the newest technologies available, including 3G, or the third generation of search marketing. Their search engine marketing program will help us lower acquisition costs and create more customized vacation experiences for our guests. This is a critical initiative for our resort portfolio and we eagerly anticipate the results the new sites and advanced search engine marketing services will generate.”
Mark Klayman — Vice President for E-Commerce, Elite Island Resorts
“We were looking for an efficient way to provide important information to our constituents, without having to rely on programmers or specialized staff to create web pages, data dashboards, and scorecards. CIBER created for us an open, scalable, service-oriented architecture portal that can be easily updated and integrated with our other IT systems, so it will grow as our needs change.”
Nick Gledich — Chief Operating Officer, Orange County Public Schools
“We have worked with CIBER since October 2004, and have been very pleased with CIBER's partnership approach and strong delivery capabilities. CIBER provides reliable, efficient, cost-effective information technology services to NES. This allows us to focus on our core mission of providing reliable power to our customers, without worrying about internal IT issues.”
Vic Hatridge — Chief Information Officer, Nashville Electric Service
“The PA WIC AAV solution is the first of its kind nationally. WIC clients are very pleased that they can now shop at any authorized store. After seeing a demonstration of PA AAV, the USDA hopes that other state WIC programs will adopt the same method in order to realize similar cost savings for their programs.”
Frank Maisano — WIC Director, Pennsylvania Department of Health
“CIBER’s experience with WIC programs and CIBER’s successful track record were significant factors for us in selecting them for this project. Because we want a solution that is independent of proprietary software, we needed someone who could provide solid J2EE experience as well as proven WIC experience—not just technological expertise. CIBER provided what we were looking for.”
Mary Kelligew Kassler — Massachusetts Department of Public Health, University of Alberta
“When you think of hospitals, you don’t necessarily think of information technology. However, IT services such as help desk, network operations, administrative support, software, and Web development are critical to our ability to provide the best possible services to our customers. CIBER has proven its skill in delivering these services effectively and efficiently, and we’re happy to have them on board.”
Donald Brooks — Deputy Chief of Information Management, U.S. Army’s Womack Army Medical Center
“Leveraging CIBER's technology and business experience maximizes our core intelligence offering, resulting in improved program cycle time and greater service to all of our customers. ”
Kelly Garcia — Manager, Application Development, R. L. Polk & Co.
“CIBER’s depth of educational service offerings and their positive track record with education clients were deciding factors for us in choosing CIBER for this project. CIBER’s expertise will help us make a seamless switch to the new program, so we can continue to provide the greatest value and efficiency for students and their families.”
Eric Boutwell — Chief Information Officer, San Francisco Unified School District
“Our goals in creating a web portal were to provide an easy-to-use, single point of access to the City’s information and services, to improve the site’s ease of use for the public, to lower maintenance costs for City web publishers, and—most importantly—to strengthen the sense of community and add value for the City’s residents via the web portal. CIBER helped us reach those goals on time and on budget.”
Randy Kolb — Information Services Director, City of Eugene. OR
“We wanted an IT services company that would provide the most tangible value to address our critical AD migration program. CIBER stood out as offering the best value to the government.”
Chuck McCallar — Chief Technology Officer, Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield

Project Management Solutions: PMRx
Project management is a critical, yet underappreciated part of every business endeavor. Whether you’re managing the installation of a single office computer or overseeing a multi-million dollar upgrade to your IT infrastructure, you’ll find that staying current with the entire project’s associated people, requirements, ideas, tasks, documents, and templates is challenging – at best.
Not only is project management challenging, but the quality of its execution can change the result of an otherwise well-executed project. Not having a clear idea of what work has been completed, what is underway, what is still to be started, and when everything is due can cause project resources to waste time doing what has already been done, or use erroneous data for project assumptions. Similarly, all of the technical details of a project might be completed early and under budget, but if the project manager cannot locate necessary project data when requested by executives or the client, faith in the reliability of the project, the vendor, and the project’s benefits will be shaken.
CIBER’s Project Management Solution
To address these challenges, CIBER, Inc. has developed PMRx, a web-based project control and repository workspace. Using PMRx, project managers, team members, and stakeholders can easily collaborate and share information.
PMRx sites are designed to support CIBER’s project management and delivery methodologies. The sites are customizable to accommodate the unique needs of each project, client, team, and deliverables. Users can view PMRx data from any computer with an internet connection, so they can continue to work while at the office, home, the airport, or an Internet café. And regardless of where a user views a PMRx project site, the project data is secure—only authorized users with correct permissions and security information can enter the system. Finally, PMRx offers repositories, project logs, discussion boards, and a dashboard of project metrics so users can see at a glance the overall project status.
PMRx Features
PMRx offers a number of tools and features, such as:
Automated E-mail Notification
Each list, library, and log has a fully automated e-mail notification capability that alerts team members as project information is published or altered. This reduces the burden of manually notifying other team members about project changes.
Document Sharing
The PMRx project site is specifically designed to provide a simple means to upload project files and documents. The Document Library presents all project-related files and documents that team members have posted, and maintains them in an easily accessible and searchable repository. The Document Libraries also maintain the version history of each document.
Information Views
PMRx project sites allow for custom views of the information contained in the project site. Initial standard views are established at the time a project site is created, and new, customizable views can be quickly developed to meet the particular needs of the project.
Threaded Discussions
PMRx improves communication between team members and eliminates communication gaps that exist within teams and in correspondence with clients and external suppliers through the use of threaded discussions. Team members can post topics and queries that other project members can respond to. This feature is especially useful when distributed delivery teams are supporting an engagement.
Control Logs
Project risks, issues, changes and other control logs are a standard subset of each PMRx project site. In accordance with project management best practices, the logs monitor and control these elements of a project and provide insight into how each risk, issue, or change request is being addressed.
PMRx Benefits
The features offered by PMRx are only helpful if they can be translated into discernable benefits to the project manager, team, and client. With PMRx, you can:
Enhance Communication
PMRx is a digital workplace that improves communication between team members. Instead of using only e-mail and voicemail as a means of communication, people located down the hall and across the globe can interact directly and in real-time. Threaded discussions and document-sharing help team members collaborate effectively and create better products more efficiently.
Improve Accessibility
Since the PMRx application is web-based, it allows access and control of project activities and information from anywhere at any time, making it easy to oversee teams and their work efforts.
Access Real-Time Project Status
Using the PMRx dashboard, project managers can quickly gather accurate and up-to-date project status information for impromptu executive meetings or client requests—even if the project manager is out of the office (as long as a computer and internet connection are available).
Security
PMRx sites are hosted and maintained by a centralized team, and all permissions to a project site are based on request by the project manager or assigned project team member and submitted electronically to the PMRx administration team. These requests are reviewed validated and permissions are provided if everything passes strict requirements based on the PMRx manual. Security can be provided to both internal CIBER project team members and the client teams as requested. No parties outside of the project team and executive leadership are able to access the project site without expressed permissions by the project manager.
Reduce Costs
Global projects mean global team members with associated high business travel costs. While PMRx will not eliminate the need for in-person interaction, it can decrease the frequency of these meetings and thus reduce overall travel costs.
No Special Hardware/Software Required
PMRx is entirely web-based, requiring only Internet access and a recent version of a commercial web browser. No additional or custom software or hardware is required. (The system works optimally with Operating System XP, Microsoft Office 2003/2007 and Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0.)
CIBER provides the PMRx system to all of our clients as part of our standard tool set—there is no additional or hidden cost.
