Summary
Innovative Healthcare organizations are engaging their customers and increasingly providing valued services via online systems. The development processes behind these systems are crucial to reducing costs and speeding quality services to market.
Client
The Ciber client, a globally diversified healthcare payer, with over 75,000 employees in 33 countries, was one of the first to embed information technology deeply into their healthcare system. The client and its affiliates have led the market by introducing key innovations that make healthcare services more accessible and affordable for customers, improve the quality and coordination of healthcare services, and help individuals and their physicians make more informed healthcare decisions.
Challenge
Because they were experiencing some difficulties, the client’s leadership team challenged Ciber to “do things differently” and become “change agents” for their organization and to resolve the following problems:
- The quarterly software release cycle was experiencing a growing number of postlaunch defects, increasing resource costs for remediation of the defects, and costing the business millions of dollars in lost claim revenue.
- The client’s development and testing teams were experiencing a lack of communication and were uncooperative through the development, testing, and release cycles, resulting in poor accountability practices.
- No unified, single methodology or approach was in place, which was resulting in a growing number of resources being used to test and validate the releases.
Solution
Charged with being change agents to the organization, Ciber created a customized Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) that is centered on the Testing theory VModel. The V-Model approach represents a structured, iterative, incremental framework for ensuring quality in the development and testing of a software application product. Linkage of incremental steps down and up the sides of the V, and verification and validation linkages across the V, drive up quality and mitigate risk.
Results
Ciber goes beyond the expected project success to fully embrace the client’s business objectives, providing real value through the SDLC, which establishes a foundation of processes and templates the client can leverage to enhance their chances for future project success.
